Culbert Ellis welcomes Stephen Kamlish KC as a Consultant, strengthening both its growing Private Criminal Defence service and its established Business Crime and Civil Recovery practice.
Stephen Kamlish KC is one of the most experienced advocates in serious criminal defence. His recent instructions include cases involving murder, terrorism, major fraud, proceeds of crime, gross negligence manslaughter, serious sexual allegations, EncroChat litigation, large-scale VAT fraud, and major public-interest inquest work.
He is particularly known for identifying weaknesses in the prosecution case at an early stage and for securing the termination of proceedings before trial where there have been serious disclosure failures or abuses of process.
“Stephen’s appointment is a major step forward for the firm. Stephen significantly strengthens our growing Private Criminal Defence practice, while adding further depth to the business crime and civil recovery work we have already established,” said James O’Hara, Director and head of the firm’s Business Crime and Civil Recovery team. “What Stephen brings is not only exceptional experience in serious and high-profile criminal matters, but a particular ability to identify the weaknesses that can stop a case in its tracks. That is enormously valuable for clients facing the most serious allegations and the highest stakes.”
