In an exciting new chapter for the firm, the partnership is pleased to announce that ownership has been transferred to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), so that every member of our team has a real stake in the future of the business as well as a voice. It’s a change that reinforces our belief in shared purpose and long-term relationships - both with each other and with our clients - and reflects what many already experience with us: your team in the room, led by respected, named practitioners.
In 2006, Mark Culbert and Justin Ellis founded iLaw, choosing a name that challenged tradition (there was no iPhone or iPad then!) and reflected the technology and intellectual property focus at the firm’s core. Nearly two decades later, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve moved into full employee ownership and refreshed our brand.
Since 2006, the services we provide in our London and Cambridge offices, and the clients we act for, have continued to grow year on year. Whilst our corporate and disputes practices have flourished, we’ve also moved into new areas such as business crime, film and construction. While “iLaw” opened the door, it’s the calibre of our people, the depth of our service, and the trust of our clients that have built what we are today.
This is the perfect time, then, to move to a brand which reflects this expanded practice and honours our founding partners. That’s why we’re now proud to introduce our new name: Culbert Ellis. Culbert Ellis reflects the work we now do every day - thoughtful, strategic, and relied upon by clients facing some of the most serious legal issues of their careers or companies - delivered by the senior lawyers you want beside you when it matters.
For those who’ve known us through our tech and innovation work: the iLaw brand isn’t disappearing. It will live on as a specialist service label under Culbert Ellis, focused on the cutting-edge intellectual property and technology work that helped to build our name.
The website has moved from ilaw.co.uk to culbertellis.com. E-mail addresses will update accordingly, and existing contact details will continue to work during the transition.
